Blackhawks ready to take off for finals flight

Wednesday, September 9, 2015

Sweeney_B'HawksVsPNG_Round11 (91)Overnight the Townsville & Districts Mendi Blackhawks named their side to take on the PNG Hunters in the Major Semi Final this Saturday 12th September 2015 at Jack Manski Oval. The Mendi Blackhawks won the right to host the home Semi-Final after clinching the Intrust Super Cup Minor Premiership in Round 25 of the regular season.

The winner of Saturday’s game will qualify directly for the Intrust Super Cup Grand Final on the 27th September at Suncorp Stadium, and whilst neither side is focused on this outcome they are both desperate for the win.

Sweeney_B'HawksVsPNG_Round11 (281)The PNG Hunters are the only side in the competition to have beaten the Mendi Blackhawks twice this year and the visitors will certainly be hoping for a hat-trick of wins come the weekend.

The Mendi Blackhawks will be back to full strength for the match, welcoming back centre Moses Pangai and front rower Ricky Thorby. Coach Kristian Woolf is confident that his side has prepared well for the game despite the big stage.

“It’s a big occasion and a huge challenge but as a team we are looking forward to it.”

Sweeney_B'HawksVsPNG_Round11 (149)“We know from past matches with the Hunters that we will have to step up and match it with them physically. But I have no doubt that if we can do that we can come away with a win.” He said.

Gates open at 2pm and fans are urged to pre-purchase their tickets to avoid a lengthy wait at the gate, similar to the previous Hunters match in Round 20. The club is expecting a large crowd. The preliminary match will involve the Townsville Police Stingers and the Army’s 3rd Brigade and is set to kick off at 3:15pm. The Mendi Blackhawks and PNG Hunters will kick off at 5:00pm.
