Blackhawks to face Falcons best

Wednesday, August 19, 2015

On Tuesday the Sunshine Coast Falcons named one of the strongest squads they have put forward all season to take on the Townsville & Districts Mendi Blackhawks in Round 24 of the Intrust Super Cup.

The Falcons side contains seven Melbourne Storm players including experienced half Ben Hampton, and some heavy duty big boys in Jordan McLean, Nelson Asofa-Solomona and Tom Learoyd-Lahrs. There will also be plenty of NRL experience on the edges in Hymel Hunt and Young Tonumaipea.

The Mendi Blackhawks will be hitting the road on Friday afternoon to travel to the Sunshine Coast to take on the Falcons on their home turf on Saturday at 2:30pm.

However despite the quality of the side the Falcons have named Mendi Blackhawks Coach Kristian Woolf has said it’s exactly what his side needs at this time of the year.

“It’s perfect for us actually because we need to be having tough games at this time of year.

“We want to be prepared for finals football and facing quality opposition and a big pack will certainly prepare us for what’s to come.”

With only two matches left of the regular season the Mendi Blackhawks are in a good position at the top of the table but by no means are they focussing on the Minor Premiership.

“We only focus on what we have in front of us. There are no guarantees. We have to go out there every game and earn it.” Coach Woolf said this week.

The Faclons are coming off a tight two point loss to the Burleigh Bears last weekend, but notched up two wins prior to Round 23 against both Souths Logan and the CQ Capras. The Mendi Blackhawks are backing up from a come from behind win against the Ipswich Jets in Charters Towers during Country Week.
It is the Sunshine Coast Falcons final home game for the season and is sure to be an exciting match for both sides.

At present we do not know if this match will be livestreamed. We will keep you updated as information comes to hand.
