Kierran Moseley etched his name into the rugby league record books when he became the first person from Cloncurry to sign with an NRL club when he gained a contract with the Penrith Panthers as an 18-year-old in 2012.

The exciting young hooker has since gained plenty of experience in first grade rugby league, having made 21 NRL appearances playing for the Panthers in 2014 and the Gold Coast Titans in 2015 and 2016.

Moseley is now back to where it all began in North Queensland after signing a contract with the Townsville & Districts Mendi Blackhawks.

Moseley said he saw the move as a good opportunity to get back to the North Queensland region, but that coach Kristian Woolf was his main motivation for signing with the Blackhawks.

“It’s a good opportunity to come up here and work with a few more of the boys that I’ve played with but also Woolfy was a big reason for me coming here,” Moseley said.

“I think his coaching will help my footy and also help the Blackhawks to get back up the top in finals.”

The 22-year-old said he was looking forward to working on his game, with hopes of securing his spot at hooker and getting back to first grade football in the future.

“Another thing that was in my head was to come up here and to be with a team fulltime and to get back into an NRL system,” Moseley said.

“I’m still a bit young and hopefully time is on my side.”

As a teenager Moseley made the move from his home in Cloncurry to Townsville to attend Kirwan State High after he was selected to play for the regional representative rugby league side, the Townsville Stingers.

While playing in Townsville Moseley caught the eye of the Penrith Panther’s National Youth Competition (NYC) Coach and his professional career began.

Moseley overcame the challenges of being separated from his family at such a young age and produced some outstanding football in Penrith that led to a NYC Premiership and also call ups for the Queensland Under 20s and the Junior Kangaroos prior to playing NRL and representing the Indigenous All Stars.

The young rake has had a difficult time with both knee and ankle injuries during his time with the Titans and will be looking forward to an injury free season in Townsville.
