The Mendi Blackhawks are happy to announce the signing of former Cronulla Sharks, Junior Kangaroo and Queensland U20 player Jordan Drew.
The 22-year-old has commenced training but it is uncertain as to if he will be named in the starting side when the team travel to Piggabeen Sports Complex this Sunday.
Mendi Blackhawks Coach Kristian Woolf, who has coached Drew previously at the Brisbane Broncos, said he was looking forward to him bringing his physicality to the team.
“Jordan is a very strong runner and defender,” Woolf said.
“He is very physical and has a real toughness about him, I am really looking forward to him bringing those components to us.”
Selected for the NSW Residents, Drew has been one of their most consistent players for the last two years, and this year played against his new Mendi Blackhawks teammates Kyle Laybutt and Blake Leary who was also awarded Man of the Match.
Born in Brisbane, Drew made his NRL debut for the Broncos at only 18 years of age, scoring a try on debut.
Named in the 2015 Holden Cup Team of the Year, Drew said he is looking forward to playing in North Queensland, at the Cowboys feeder club.
“The last couple of day’s have been pretty hectic,” Drew said.
“Once I spoke to Woolfy (Kristian Woolf), I knew it was time for a change.”
“I am really looking forward to a new challenge and playing at a club that has been successful on and off the field.”
“At this stage of my career, I just want to do a really good job for the Mendi Blackhawks and hopefully win a championship at the end of year.”
