It was a hot and steamy afternoon at Jack Manski Oval on Saturday for the round 3 clash of the Mendi Blackhawks and Mackay Cutters.

The Mendi Blackhawks won the game 60-12, in front of a 1400 strong home crowd, taking them to the top of the Intrust Super Cup ladder after the first 3 rounds, and first points in the Foley Shield Cup.

Coach Kristian Woolf praised his team for their efforts, including his 3 starting middles, backrowers, halves and the remarkable effort of fullback Carlin Anderson, who recorded a massive 28 points in the game notching up 2 tries and 100% accuracy with the boot, kicking 10 from 10.

“It was a good strong team performance,” Woolf said.

“We showed solid resilience in our defence, which was most pleasing.”

“I’m hoping the boys use this win as a confidence booster to take with them for the next few games.”

The Mendi Blackhawks coaching team will now complete their reviews and start preparing for Round 4 when they head to Dolphin Oval to take on the Redcliffe Dolphins, this Saturday.

The Mal Meninga Under 18 game, was lucky to kick off at its 12.30pm allotted time due to a massive storm which hit prior to kick off.
