Pre-season push a steep challenge

Week 4 of pre-season for the Townsville & Districts Mendi Blackhawks ended in an Amazing Race style challenge on Saturday the 6th December 2014. The players were split into three teams and provided with riddles, tasks and various fitness challenges in and around North Ward and Castle Hill . Each of the challenges tested varying fitness components – strength, agility, power and endurance, as well as team work and problem solving skills. The final task involved all three teams coming together as a group to pull a utility up Castle Hill.

“The players performed favourably in their individual teams as well as a full playing group when they came together to pull the ute up the hill. It was a steamy day but no one slacked off, all of our boys progressed through their tasks well and achieved what we asked of them. It was very encouraging to see the way they came together as a team.”  Head Coach, Kristian Woolf said.

Pre-season trial matches begin in February (with the schedule to be finalised soon) and Strength and Conditioning Coach Daniel Strickland is continuing to come up with creative ways to ensure the players are fully prepared come game time in 2015. A former Cowboy, Strickland knows exactly what it takes to get in peak condition for rugby league and is working hard to get the best out of our players.

The players are training strongly and are currently right on target with all training objectives. Next Friday (19th December 2014) is the final training session for the year before the players have a short break over Christmas and recommence pre-season on Monday 5th January 2015.

Members of the public are invited to come down to Jack Manski Oval on Friday 19th December to watch the players last skill session for the year beginning at 6pm on field 1.
